Who It’s Best For
About the tool
Folklore is a variant interpretation platform for clinical genetics labs, built by Helena Bioinformatics. It takes a VCF from whole-genome or exome sequencing, annotates it against 45 curated databases, applies deterministic ACMG/AMP classification, and prioritises the results with phenotype, screening and family data. A whole genome is ready for review in under 10 minutes, and a geneticist inspects the fired criteria and signs a tiered, traceable report. Eight modules sit in one case view: variant classification, mitochondrial DNA under MMDWG 2020, structural variants and CNVs under Riggs 2020, HPO phenotype matching, clinical screening tiers, cohort analysis, family and trio analysis, and PubMed literature evidence. An AI-native clinical assistant, running on a large language model hosted on EU GPU infrastructure, answers questions about the whole case without sending patient data to external AI services. It explains why criteria were triggered but cannot change classifications. A public MCP server and Chrome extension let ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity look up public variants. Folklore is aimed at clinical geneticists, rare-disease and newborn or carrier screening programmes, and genomics researchers. The Free plan includes 3 credits at signup. Individual costs €590 per month, Team €1,240 and Complete €1,890 with API access and FASTQ processing, with two months free on yearly billing. Credits start at €59 per whole-genome analysis and never expire. Prices exclude VAT.
Key Use Cases
Data Analysis
Explore how data analysis tools help teams transform raw data into actionable insights through summaries, pattern detection, and anomaly spotting.
AI Knowledge Assistants
Discover how AI Knowledge Assistants streamline access to information across documents, meetings, and systems, boosting productivity for your team.
API & Developers Readiness
The Folklore REST API (api.helena.bio/folklore/v1) accepts VCF, paired FASTQ, BAM or CRAM and returns a PDF report and structured analysis results. It requires the Complete plan or an approved Enterprise account. A public, read-only MCP server (helena-bioinformatics/folklore-mcp on GitHub) lets AI agents classify public germline variants and search literature. Paid plans from €491.67/month billed yearly or €590 monthly (Individual), excluding VAT.
